Pfotenhilfe, Salzburg, Österreich - A heart-warming incident recently occurred in the Salzburg/Upper Austria border region when an injured squirrel baby was found by a cat and brought to the animal protection home Pfotenhilfe. The little animal had fallen out of his nest and arrived in a critical state with closed eyes and hypothermia. "Our veterinarian was able to stabilize the little one, and I have been doing it with the Flascherl since then," reports Johanna Stadler, the managing director of the Pfotenhilfe, who has already successfully raised numerous young animals from mice to Foxes, as OE24 reported.

Unfortunately, this incident is not an isolated case. Every year, many squirrel mothers lose their boys, especially due to tree felling in spring, which triggers panicked escape reactions. These panicked escapes often mean that the young animals fall out of their nests and often starve if they are not found in time. "We urgently appeal to cut trees only in autumn and winter," said Stadler. These practices not only harm squirrels, but also other wild animals such as fucking and insects. For this reason, the pruning of trees and hedges in Germany is prohibited by law from March 1 to September 30th-a protection that Austrian space would urgently need, such as OTS has highlighted. "It is not understandable why there is no such thing in Austria," notes Stadler and calls for better protection for these helpless animals and a rethink of tree average.
