Crime in focus
Theft is not a trivial offense! In Germany, thieves face up to five years in prison, and in particularly serious cases even up to ten years. Gang theft or armed robbery can increase the sentence to up to 15 years. In 2022, around 1.8 million thefts were registered in Germany - an alarming increase of 20 percent compared to the previous year! The clearance rate varies greatly: only 7.9 percent of cases of money theft are solved, while shoplifting cases fare significantly better at 89.8 percent. But many crimes remain obscure because only those cases in which the perpetrators are caught are reported.
