Dramatic operation: Major fire in Waghäusel car workshop!
Waghäusel, Karlsruhe district – Alarming scenes this morning in the Waghäusel-Kirrlach car workshop!At 4:30 a.m. a fire broke out in a building that includes a workshop as well as offices and living quarters. Quick action was required when several fire brigade teams had to immediately arrive at the facility with breathing apparatus. The source of the fire: an electronic component that burst into flames! The firefighters fought tirelessly against the flames and even opened the roof to combat the numerous embers. The use of a turntable ladder in particular proved to be crucial in this dramatic moment.
Smoke poisoning drama!
The situation came to a head when a warning message was issued via the NINA system at 6:17 a.m. to alert the population due to the threatening smoke development. While the fire brigade was fighting the flames, a resident suffered suspected smoke poisoning while trying to extinguish the fire themselves and was taken to hospital in an ambulance. A firefighter also sustained minor injuries and required medical treatment. It turns out that fires can quickly become dangerous!
The fire brigades from Waghäusel, Philippsburg and Kronau presented themselves in action with over 80 fighters and 14 vehicles! The operations management, under the supervision of city commander Dieter Niemann, was supported by the deputy district fire chief Bertram Maier. The THW technical advisor was also on site, and the Kronau fire department even used a drone to monitor the situation from the air. The rescue service was on duty with numerous vehicles and a team of 15 people, while the police also arrived with two patrols from the Philippsburg district.
The fire department cannot currently provide any information about the amount of property damage or the exact cause of the fire. One thing is clear, however: the situation is tense and an end to the operation is not yet in sight!
