Germany will deliver two more Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine, while the USA replenishes Berlin's stocks. This strengthens Ukraine's defense capability against Russian aggression.

Germany is delivering two more Patriot systems to Ukraine
Germany announced on Friday that it will deliver two more Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine in the coming days, with several additional systems to follow in the coming months. This comes after the Pentagon agreed to quickly replenish Berlin's stockpiles.
Germany is investing in air defense systems
In a statement from the Federal Ministry of Defense it was also announced that Germany will self-finance the new Patriot systems provided by the USA. Federal Defense Minister Boris Pistorius commented: "The prerequisite was that the US manufacturer delivers new Patriot systems as quickly as possible in return so that we can continue to meet our NATO obligations. This commitment on the part of the US has been guaranteed."
Previous support for Ukraine
Since Russia's invasion in 2022, Germany has already delivered three Patriot systems to Ukraine. So far, however, there has been hesitation in sending additional systems until it is certain that the USA will replace the systems.
New plans for arms deliveries
Under a new plan unveiled by President Donald Trump last month, European nations agreed to transfer weapons to Ukraine while also purchasing new weapons from the United States to replenish their stockpiles. This strategy has been discussed since Trump won last year's election; European officials quickly began considering ways to maintain U.S. arms shipments to Ukraine under a president who had announced plans to reduce American support.
NATO and support for Ukraine
Col. Martin L. O'Donnell, a spokesman for NATO High Command, told CNN: "NATO stands ready to coordinate the 'urgent delivery' of weapons to Ukraine. NATO is implementing the initiative announced by President Trump and Secretary General Rutte last month to increase support for Ukraine. Germany has taken leadership responsibility in this regard."
Positive response to Germany's commitment
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte also spoke on Friday on Platform X and “welcomed” Germany’s decision. He added: "This is great news and I welcome Germany's leadership! This will ensure that Ukraine is able to defend its airspace, protect its people and deter Russian aggression."
