In a shocking incident on Thursday evening, a truck tore off the overhead line of a tram at Romanplatz in Nymphenburg, causing massive traffic chaos in Munich! The accident occurred shortly after 5 p.m. in rush hour traffic when the truck drove through and took down the dangerous 750 volt power lines.
The Munich control center was immediately alerted and a fire engine and special vehicles were quickly on site to deal with the situation. The area was closed over a large area because the hanging overhead power line posed a major danger. Nervousness was high until employees of the Munich Transport Company (MVG) confirmed that the overhead line was de-energized and could be safely grounded.
No injuries, but high excitement
Fortunately, there were no injuries in this terrible incident. The emergency services were able to collect the leaked operating materials from the truck before nightfall and carry out initial inspections. MVG employees immediately began repairing the overhead line while traffic was rerouted around the accident site.
The police have already started an investigation into the circumstances of the accident. There is currently no information about any property damage. While the repair work is underway, the area around Romanplatz continues to be affected by significant traffic delays. In a city like Munich, every minute counts - the rush hour traffic is at a standstill while the emergency services do everything they can to quickly defuse the dangerous situation!
