Celtics celebrate narrow home win against Oberstdorf – tension until the end!
An exciting ice hockey game in the Sieben-Schwaben-Stadion ended with a narrow victory for the ESV Türkheim Celtics against EC Oberstdorf. Despite a weak performance this season and difficulties in building up the game, the Celtics were able to record a 2-1 win on Sunday evening. Coach Bastian Hitzelberger had to do without several players, which led to three U20 players, including Dominikspeiser, being called up to the squad. A special highlight of the evening was the honoring of two ice hockey icons from Türkheim, whose jerseys are now hanging under the stadium roof.
Course of the game: tension until the last minute
The Celtics dominated the game at the beginning, but had great difficulty breaking through Oberstdorf's compact defense. The scoreboard remained empty in the first third, despite more possession of the puck. There was a setback in the second third: Michael Grimm gave the guests a 1-0 lead in the 33rd minute. But the Celtics didn't give up! After a strategic time-out, Pius Bader managed to equalize the score at 1-1.
In the final third, the Türkheimers pushed for the lead. In the 54th minute they took advantage of a power-number situation and Darius Sirch scored the decisive 2-1. Oberstdorf tried everything to come back, but Türkheim goalkeeper Michi Bernthaler held the narrow lead until the end. Despite the difficulties and an overall disappointing performance, the Celtics secured the three points that are crucial for the table.
Outlook for the upcoming games
With this win behind them, the Celtics are now turning their attention to the next challenges. On Friday they meet ESV Bad Bayersoien and on Sunday there is a home game against EG Woodstocks Augsburg. Coach Hitzelberger emphasizes the need to improve performance in order to be successful in the coming games. The Celtics will have to be more creative and decisive in order to collect more points and consolidate their position in the league.
