Bundeswehr celebrates 69 years: Ceremony in Wilhelmshaven delights guests!
A brilliant day for the Bundeswehr! The 69th founding anniversary of the Navy was celebrated with a festive event in the Gorch-Fock-Haus in Wilhelmshaven. The Bundeswehr was founded on November 12, 1955, and since then this day has been honored as a symbol of the armed forces of the Federal Republic of Germany. Around 200 invited guests from politics, business and the military were present to honor this important event.
The first city councilor of Wilhelmshaven, Armin Schönfelder, delivered a greeting on behalf of the mayor Carsten Feist. With a wink, he recalled that he did his military service not in the Navy, but in the Air Force. The highlight of the evening was the captivating lecture by Prof. Dr. Michael Epkenhans, who impressively presented the development from the original Federal Navy to today's German Navy. His message was clear: the soldiers are “citizens in uniform” and have been part of civil society from the beginning.
An evening full of history and recognition
Prof. Dr. Epkenhans' lively lecture was well received by those present and offered a deep insight into the history of the navy. The event was not only an anniversary celebration, but also an honorable tribute to the soldiers who serve the country. The atmosphere was characterized by pride and gratitude for the Bundeswehr's achievements over the years.
