Kleinheisler leaves GAK: decision causes excitement!
The GAK will have to prepare for the coming season without the Hungarian national player Laszlo Kleinheisler. Sports director Didi Elsneg announced today that no agreement could be reached on a contract extension. Kleinheisler, who only came to GAK in the winter, will no longer play for Graz after he was mostly only used as a joker player. According to Elsneg, Kleinheisler's departure is now official and the club will look for new options. Kleinheisler had no significant match practice at his previous club Panathinaikos, which made the move to GAK easier.
The three-time European Championship participant and 52-time team player, who has already had stints at clubs such as Werder Bremen and Darmstadt as well as more than 130 games for Osijek, is no longer retained by GAK. Elsneg describes Kleinheisler as a “positive guy” and “crazy guy”, while coach Rene Poms speaks positively about his experiences with the player. Kleinheisler could be used both in the center and hanging up front and is valued for his robustness and offensive quality.
Further departures and possible transfers
In addition to Kleinheisler, Antonio Tikvic, a loan player from Watford, could also leave GAK. Elsneg suggests that Tikvic is leaning towards leaving. The GAK has already officially released Michael Lang zu Kapfenberg and Gabriel Zirngast, whose loan contract with LASK was terminated.
A contract extension for Lukas Graf is conceivable in the current transfer period. In addition, Elsneg is optimistic about a possible loan for the talented Nico Cipot from Spezia. Cipot is currently in action at the U21 European Championships and could be of valuable service to GAK next season.
With his 35th birthday on Tuesday, Elsneg has not only made new decisions for the coming season, but also faces the challenge of further strengthening his team. In the meantime, the GAK must ensure that no important new additions are necessary unless something surprising happens.
