Treptow-Köpenick will transform Lakegrund into a green oasis by 2026!

On Monday, October 28th, the Treptow-Köpenick Streets and Parks Department will begin the exciting redesign of the popular Lakegrund green space! The district office has ambitious plans to transform the green spaces and create a welcoming neighborhood oasis that can meet the challenges of climate change. With these measures the authorities want to increase the attractiveness of the park!

Things will soon be lively on the western meadow of the Lakegrund: a brand new streetball area with a protective ball fence will be built, and the boules players will also be catered for. Newly designed lounge areas with comfortable benches offer future visitors a haven of peace. On the north side of the site there will be a considerately designed, barrier-free path, lined with flowering bushes, which connects the allotment gardens.

Big project until the end of 2026

But that's not all! The expansion involves the partial demolition of a section of concrete path, while ecological measures are not neglected. Four new trees, 235 insect-friendly shrubs, numerous ground cover plants and 1,000 colorful spring bloomers will be planted. There will also be perennial beds, a wildflower meadow and spacious lawns. This comprehensive redesign is being funded with a whopping budget of around 1.8 million euros from the urban development funding program “Living Centers and Quarters”!

The exciting developments are due to be completed by the end of 2026, but there may be temporary restrictions on the use of the beautiful green space during construction. The anticipation for the new open spaces is still enormous!
