Shocking act in Ulm: Former student in court for attacking a teacher!
In a sensational trial at the Ulm regional court, a 23-year-old former student is being tried for the attempted murder of a teacher who was seriously injured in February. The alleged perpetrator is said to have hit the teacher, then 34 years old, in the head with an object similar to a baseball bat, which sent him to the hospital and left him with life-threatening injuries. The public prosecutor's office assumes that the attack took place in revenge for alleged allegations of abuse against the teacher, which are currently being investigated in a separate case South Courier reported.
A process full of questions
The trial began in full view of the public, but the teacher himself was not present on the first day of the trial. However, the defendant's lawyers and several witnesses were present, including a local resident who observed the incident. The public prosecutor emphasized that the accused committed the crime knowingly accepting that the victim could die. The defendant's lawyer, however, explained that his client maintains his innocence and cites the prosecutor's one-sided investigation as the reason for the lack of evidence. As the Passauer Neue Presse reported, the question of the motive remained in the room, as the teacher had already been exposed to allegations of abuse since 2021, which, however, did not lead to charges.
In total, more than 30 witnesses are expected to testify in the trial by mid-December, making the trial an important venue for clarifying the background and possible motives behind this brutal act. The defendant is in custody and could spend several years behind bars if convicted. For the time being, the presumption of innocence applies, while the investigation continues to raise questions and the situation remains tense.
