Construction work on the north-south S-Bahn tunnel: traffic chaos in Berlin announced!

On January 9, 2025, S-Bahn Berlin announced that construction work on the north-south S-Bahn tunnel would lead to significant restrictions in S-Bahn traffic. This work is scheduled for the period from January 17th to 27th and affects several important S-Bahn lines in the capital.

Lines S1, S2, S25 and S26 are particularly affected. During construction work, important stations on the main route will not be served on both weekends - from Friday at 10 p.m. to Monday at around 1:30 a.m. The canceled stops include the Brandenburg Gate, Potsdamer Platz, Anhalter Bahnhof, Oranienburger Straße, Nordbahnhof and Humboldthain.

Replacement bus services

A replacement bus service will be set up for the affected passengers. The S1A bus line will serve the route between Yorckstrasse and Friedrichstrasse, while the S1B bus line will transport passengers between Friedrichstrasse and Gesundbrunnen. To receive up-to-date information about the connections and departure times of the replacement buses, we recommend using the S-Bahn Berlin app.

Further information about the construction work and the associated restrictions can be found on the S-Bahn Berlin website S-Bahn Berlin reported.
