CSU Traunstein invites you to visit the construction site at Maxplatz: Mayor Hümmer provides information about upcoming redesigns.

Maxplatz Traunstein is becoming the new highlight – this is how it continues!

In Traunstein, around 50 citizens discussed the future design of Maxplatz, where a construction site inspection took place. This event was organized by the Traunstein CSU local association and attracted both interested parties and the mayor Dr. Christian Hümmer and construction manager Ulrich Habl, who provided information about progress and plans.

Maxplatz has proven to be the most frequented place in Traunstein. So far, the picture has been dominated by a collection of traffic routes, but this is about to change fundamentally. Dr. Hümmer explained that the space will be upgraded to create a welcoming atmosphere. A central point of his remarks was the changing shopping mentality of people, who are increasingly buying online or in shopping centers. In order to secure a future for local retail, attractive urban design is essential.

Planned changes and new attractions

The redesign of Maxplatz includes various aspects, including the planting of 16 trees, which will be planted in November to improve the urban climate. New benches will also be installed in the spring and a fountain with surrounding greenery will be created to create a meeting point for citizens. Particular attention is paid to lighting: twelve tall lamps and decorative lighting on the seating areas are intended to ensure a pleasant ambience, even when the sun goes down. A color change of the kiosk, which will be integrated into the cityscape, is also on the agenda.

A central aspect of the new square design is the paving. During the inspection, particular attention was paid to the non-slip and flat paving stones, which are intended to reduce barriers for people with mobility restrictions. Habl reported that the stones are laid loosely, which makes repairs much easier. The paving will be done in an attractive herringbone pattern in different colors to facilitate maintenance and provide aesthetics.

Funding and timelines

Construction appears to be on schedule, Habl said, and if weather conditions cooperate, the course could be completed this year. “We are investing in the future of the city,” emphasized Dr. Hümmer, with the construction costs of around four million euros being mostly covered by funding. This opens up a unique opportunity for redesign that brings both functional and aesthetic values to the city of Traunstein.

The progress will continue to be monitored by the city administration, and the upcoming changes to Maxplatz could make a decisive contribution to increasing the attractiveness of Traunstein. Given the challenges facing the retail sector, this redesigned space could be a valuable element of urban development, designed to promote both living quality and visitor flows.
