Starnberg is looking for the oldest canned food: take part and win!
Things are getting exciting in the Starnberg district! The municipal waste management company Awista Starnberg has launched an exciting challenge: the search for the oldest canned food in the pantry! As part of the European Week for Waste Reduction, Awista is calling on citizens to find their oldest food with the best before date (BBD) and send in a photo of it. Whoever discovers the oldest example can look forward to an attractive prize!
Every year, a shocking eleven million tons of food end up in the trash in Germany - that's equivalent to the weight of over 20,000 seagoing ships! With this campaign, Awista Starnberg would like to draw attention to the immense food waste and encourage people to use food more consciously. “We waste a lot of resources in the form of sometimes elaborately produced food and therefore also money,” explains the company. Participation is easy: A photo of the food with the best before date clearly legible can be sent to gewinnspiel@awista-starnberg.de by November 30th.
Campaigns to avoid waste
The European Waste Reduction Week takes place from November 16th to 24th and offers numerous creative actions that raise awareness of the problem of food waste. In addition to searching for the oldest canned food, interested citizens also have the opportunity to visit the waste recycling plant in Augsburg. This information trip will take place on November 19th and offers a look behind the scenes of waste disposal.
“It would help a lot if we thought about whether we really need a food and whether we use it in a timely manner before or at the latest when we go shopping,” emphasizes Christoph Wufka, board member of Awista Starnberg KU. The campaign is not only intended to be fun, but also to increase the appreciation of food and motivate citizens to throw away less food. All information about the campaign and waste recycling can be found on the Awista Starnberg website.
