Blaubeuren goes electric: new e-charging stations opened for the region

A new milestone in electromobility was reached in Blaubeuren. The Technische Werken Blaubeuren (TWB) and the SWU Stadtwerke Ulm/Neu-Ulm have not only confirmed their cooperation, but have also significantly expanded their infrastructure. On October 9, 2024, the official opening of three new e-charging locations took place, which are of great importance for the constantly growing number of e-vehicle owners in the region.

With a total of eight AC and two DC charging points, charging electric vehicles is now easier than ever. These new charging options are strategically located at various locations in Blaubeuren, including Dodelweg 16, Ulmer Straße at the hospital and Marktstraße 24 in the underground car park. Both standard charging (AC) and power charging (DC) are available at the various locations, which meets the different needs of users.

Locations in detail

The breakdown of the new charging points shows the versatility of the offer:

  • Dodelweg 16 (bei Hallenbad): Zwei Ladesäulen mit insgesamt vier Ladepunkten für AC Laden.
  • Ulmer Straße (am Krankenhaus): Eine Wallbox mit zwei Ladepunkten, welche 50 kW DC Laden erlaubt.
  • Marktstraße 24 (in der Tiefgarage): Zwei Wallboxen mit insgesamt vier Ladepunkten für AC Laden.

The opening took place in the presence of high-ranking guests, including the mayor of Blaubeuren, Jörg Seibold, as well as representatives of the companies involved. Mayor Seibold expressed his joy about the expansion of the charging infrastructure and emphasized its importance for a sustainable future. “These new charging points take another step towards an environmentally friendly future,” said Seibold.

Markus Späth, Commercial Director of TWB, also emphasized how important this project is for the region. “We are proud to have implemented this project together with the SWU,” said Späth, adding that this was an important signal for the active participation in shaping the energy transition.

Ernst Hönig, Head of Energy Services/Customer Solutions at SWU, added: “Electromobility is constantly increasing, and we are pleased to be able to meet this increasing demand with our new charging points.” He praised the cooperation between the two companies for the continuous improvement of the infrastructure, which makes an important contribution to sustainable mobility in the region.

The project was also financially supported by the European Union as part of the NextGenerationEU initiative, which underlines the relevance and commitment to electromobility. With these new charging options, Blaubeuren and its municipal utilities are sending a strong signal for the future of mobility.

The introduction of these new e-charging stations could serve as a model for other cities and municipalities considering similar initiatives. The combination of local commitment and EU support shows an innovative way to meet the challenges of the future.
