Coach drama on A99: Fully occupied bus goes up in flames!
On January 8, 2025, a Dutch coach burned down completely on the A99 near Munich. The bus, which was on the way to Austria, was fully occupied with 52 passengers and a driver at the time of the fire. Thanks to the driver's quick reaction, the passengers were able to be evacuated before the bus burst into flames.
The driver noticed smoke in the back of the bus around 6 a.m. and immediately pulled over on the shoulder. All occupants were able to leave the bus unharmed. The fire caused property damage in the high six-figure range, although the exact cause of the fire initially remained unclear. In addition, the A99 was partially closed, which resulted in massive traffic delays and a kilometer-long traffic jam in rush hour traffic in the direction of Salzburg.
Traffic and rescue measures
The fire brigade groups from Munich, Oberschleißheim and Unterschleißheim were quickly on site to put out the fire. Forces from the highway maintenance department and police station 48 were also involved in the operations. Two lanes of the A99 were opened, while the hard shoulder and the two right lanes remained closed. The rescue and clean-up work lasted until midday.
How np-coburg reported that the bus with travelers was on the way to a skiing holiday in Austria. Also Mercury reported on the incident and the associated traffic problems.
