Finally progress! Gilchinger Glatze: After 30 years it's starting!

After more than 30 years of intensive discussions, the situation surrounding the development of Gilchinger Glatze could now change significantly. The last owner of a total of 42 landowners recently signed, prompting Mayor Manfred Walter to express his relief at this progress. The Gilchinger Glatze, an approximately 14 hectare undeveloped area in the center of Gilching, has been considered a central area for future residential projects for some time.

An urban development ideas competition took place back in 2005, which aimed to create a green corridor and develop space-saving forms of housing. In 2007, the local council approved the urban development framework plan, after which the planning steps for the development plan were initiated in 2014 Mercury reported.

Lengthy planning steps

In the following years, various citizen dialogues on planning were held, and the local council unanimously approved the draft development plan in 2017. However, difficulties arose with the architect, which led to the design being handed over to the Munich Outer Economic Area Planning Association in 2021. These developments forced a reallocation process that is carried out by the Landsberg surveying office.

The planned development is expected to take up to 20 years and includes around 80% residential construction. There will also be childcare facilities, while half of the area will be retained as green space, including a city garden and a water belt. The aim is to offer around 1,500 people living space, with prices expected to be over 2,000 euros per square meter, according to the information on the website Community of Gilching.

The current development represents a significant step in growth for the community, which has been faced with negative birth rates and a halt in growth over the last three years.
