Anna Gasser: Shock injury in a leisure accident in Munich!
Anna Gasser, the double Olympic snowboard champion from Carinthia, was injured in a recreational accident on an artificial surfing wave in Munich. The incident occurred at the end of June when the 33-year-old fell and dislocated her shoulder. The injury is serious: Gasser injured his labrum and biceps tendon, which required an operation at the Hochrum Private Clinic in Austria. This operation was specifically chosen to improve the stability of her shoulder, as ÖSV press spokesman Karlheinz Wieser announced.
Due to the injury, Gasser is now facing a longer break. A planned training camp in Australia has to be canceled. In a message on Instagram, the athlete expressed her desire to make the best of the situation and come back stronger. Participation in the first Big Air World Cup at the end of November in Secret Garden, China, currently seems unlikely. Wieser emphasized that Gasser will slowly start snowboarding again in the fall, depending on how his recovery progresses.
Olympic dreams and challenges
Despite the injury, Gasser's goal of taking part in the 2026 Olympic Games in Italy remains secure because qualification has already been achieved. However, a recent study on the Olympic competitions shows that the risk of injury for athletes is high. At the Tokyo Olympics, the injury rate was 9%, representing 1,035 injuries recorded. For comparison: at the Olympic Games in Beijing 2008 the rate was 10% and in London 2012 it was even 11%.
Anna Gasser has had a forced break due to a bruised heel in the past and knows how difficult it is to be patient while waiting for healing. She emphasizes that every injury takes time and that one often hopes that the healing process will go faster. Especially with new techniques that will be required at the upcoming Olympics, such as the fourteen-forty - a technique involving four turns - returning from injury is even more challenging.
With the right attitude and a lot of patience, Gasser plans to come back stronger than ever. Her determination to overcome setbacks could lead her to new heights in snowboarding.
