Dog chimney in the Erftalbad: Four -legged friends enjoy the last bathing fun!
In Bürgstadt, dog owners and their four -legged friends experienced a happy event in the Erftalbad on the last Saturday. On the occasion of the annual dog swimming, which has been part of the summer activities since 2016, the animals had the opportunity to splash around in the water and let off steam. The visitors were well prepared: toys for the water were brought with them to lure the dogs into the water.
This year some dogs needed a little persuasion before daring the jump into the cool water. Once it worked, the competition for the coveted toy was opened. Many animals showed themselves as a nimble swimmer as they swam around the bet to catch the toy. A children's pool was also provided for the smaller breeds in which they could linger undisturbed.
Various offer for dog lovers
The event not only offered bathing pleasure, but also numerous information stands around the dog. For example, interested parties were able to learn more about first aid courses for dogs, dog schools or physiotherapy. There was a wide range of products to discover, including dog leash, toys and even dog stripes. In addition, the guests learned something about specialized feed offers, such as a special “banquet box” for dogs.
The status of a travel agency presented tips for dog vacation was particularly popular. In addition, the topic of pet burial was also addressed to show that there are subsequent opportunities after the life of the beloved pet.
A highlight of the afternoon was the exciting demonstration of the rescue dog squadron. A small search dog called Nala showed how quickly and efficiently she could identify a smell of a specific person. This bitch is not only suitable as a playmate, but also plays a crucial role in the search for missing people, for example in old people's homes.
Matthias Karch from the swimming pool club was very satisfied with the rush. He estimated the number of participants on around 200 dogs due to the weather. These ranged from tiny breeds to Dachshund and shepherd dogs to larger dogs such as Hovawart and Appenzeller Sennenhund, which also discovered the water for themselves.
That day dogs were not only allowed to swim, but also use the large lawn as a playground. There was a happy atmosphere, not only among the animals, but also between the owners and mistresses that exchanged with snacks and drinks.
What many may not know: dogs are unable to swim from birth. They automatically paddle with the paws, but it is important that they only get used to the wet element and learn to stick to the surface. While some races, such as the Labrador Retriever, are considered true water rats, other dogs have more difficulties with the element of water.
In summary, it can be said that swimming for dogs is not only a welcome cooling in summer, but also an excellent way to remain fit and agile. However, it is important that even healthy dogs take a break in the water after about twenty minutes. Swimming can be a healthy way of training their muscles, especially for older dogs.
