Property tax shock in Garmisch: From 2025 there are massive increases!

Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Deutschland - A financial earthquake for property owners in Garmisch-Partenkirchen! From 2025, owners must expect a drastic increase in property tax. The municipal council has decided to raise the rate of property tax B from the current 430 to a whopping 730 percent. This means an additional burden of around one million euros, which the municipality needs to cover increased expenses. The decision was made on November 14th with a majority of 19: 9 after heated debates.

The new property tax is due for all real estate owners and the calculation is anything but easy. The tax measurement amount determined by the tax office plays a central role in this. The municipality uses the new regulation to increase its income to around 7.9 million euros annually. Mayor Elisabeth Koch (CSU) describes the increase as "moderate" and indicates that the previous lifting rates have remained unchanged for years. She emphasizes that the municipality is dependent on these additional income in order to finance mandatory tasks such as expensive school and street renovations.

controversy in the municipal council

The discussion in the local council was shaped by emotions. While some members defended the increase as a necessary measure, others expressed concerns. Daniel Schimmer warned of the free voters that the companies were already heavily burdened and another tax burden could endanger the quality of the location. Martin Sielmann from the Free and Liberals also speculated about political motives behind the increase and suspected that the CSU could later reduce the tax as an election gift.

The exact impact of the new property tax on different real estate types remains unclear, since each object is evaluated individually. Commercidist Christoph Maier said that stress will occur. Citizens have to prepare for an uncertain financial future, while the community is trying to fill their health insurers.
