FDP nomination: Jürgen Speer is fighting for the mandate in Weilheim!
The FDP has selected a new candidate for the 2025 federal election: Jürgen Speer, a 44-year-old farmer from Wildsteig, will run for the Liberals in the Weilheim constituency. This decision was made at the formation conference in Weilheim in the “Schießstätte Da Franco” inn, where almost 45 members of the FDP district associations Weilheim-Schongau and Garmisch-Partenkirchen gathered.
Jürgen Speer was the only candidate and received 27 votes from the 28 voting members, underlining his support within the party. The direct candidate is an experienced farmer and dairy farmer who has taken over his parents' business. In his introductory speech, Speer emphasized the importance of agriculture for the local economy and expressed his ideas about a social market economy.
Unique candidate with clear views
Judith Haberkorn, the district chairwoman of Weilheim-Schongau, explained in her welcoming speech how important it is to work together in the upcoming election campaign, as it will probably be “intense and emotional”. Speer's election is a signal that the FDP base is behind him. The new candidate took a clear position against state subsidies and reiterated that “wealth should be created and not redistributed”.
His explicit position is that the welfare state depends on the performance of the economy. He said: “The social security system and the high standards of living in our country depend on the performance and profitability of the economy.” Here he criticized the ideological redistribution fantasies, which, in his view, could lead to the destruction of money by the state.
Compared to the last federal election, in which the FDP candidate Karl Martin Sielmann only received 6.3 percent of the first votes, Speer could bring new life to the election campaign with his clear positioning and help the Liberals increase their visibility in the constituency.
The election will take place on September 28, 2025 and it remains to be seen how Speer will organize his election campaign and what response he can find among voters. His views and background provide a lot of material for discussion and could be decisive for the outcome of the election. Information about the election and candidates will be updated regularly to keep voters informed.
