A new star in the employment agency sky shines brightly! On November 7, 2024, Ulrike Sommer was ceremoniously introduced as the new head of the Weilheim Employment Agency. In a festive ceremony in the parish hall on Theatergasse, Dr. Markus Schmitz, the head of the Bavarian employment agencies, the official employment certificate. Sommer takes responsibility for employment services in five districts: Fürstenfeldbruck, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Landsberg, Starnberg and Weilheim-Schongau.

The celebration attracted around 80 guests, including prominent local representatives such as Angelika Flock, the second mayor of Weilheim, and Wolfgang Taffertshofer, the deputy district administrator. Dr. Schmitz praised Sommer as an experienced leader and emphasized the challenges that await the agencies in the coming years. “Serious changes and stormy times” lie ahead, but with Sommer at the helm, the agency is in an excellent position.

Ulrike Sommer's impressive career

Ulrike Sommer, who grew up in Hanau and studied Catholic theology, brings a wealth of experience with her. She has held various positions within the federal agency and has established herself as a true “story collector” who tells individual success stories of job seekers. In her inaugural speech she declared: “It’s the best job after Pope!” and promised to work hard for the professional integration of young people and further training for the unemployed.

Sommer is determined to lead the Weilheim employment agency with creativity and commitment. Her vision is clear: “It is these stories that give our work in employment administration meaning every day.” With a team of 400 colleagues, she wants to actively shape the region's job market and write many more success stories.
