Laterndl Sunday in Grafenau: A festival of lights and traditions!

Last Sunday, the city center of Grafenau was transformed into a festive spectacle that made the hearts of visitors beat faster! The traditional Laterndl Sunday, organized by the Grafenauer Werbegemeinschaft, offered an exciting program that attracted young and old. While the shops opened their doors from 1 p.m., the day started with a colorful flea market and the Broomstick Kirta, despite the changeable weather. The local clubs took care of their physical well-being, and the shooters treated the guests to mulled wine and punch - “They were drunk by the end,” reported Evi Blach, the chairwoman of the advertising association.

In the afternoon, around 40 children and 100 adults lit up the town square with their lanterns, led by the night guards and accompanied by cheerful guitar music. But the highlight of the day was the spectacular show by the Perchten group “D’Waidla Ghosts” from Untergiesbach. With elaborate costumes and mysterious masks, they took the audience into the fascinating world of legends and myths. “The show was really impressive,” enthused Karin Hatzinger-Höcker, the second chairwoman of the advertising association. Almost 400 onlookers were mesmerized by the spectacle, which amazed people for over an hour.

In addition, visitors were able to receive valuable tips on burglary protection at the information stand of the Passau criminal police and get to know the various services of the Bavarian Red Cross and the mountain rescue service. A day full of joy, community and unforgettable experiences in Grafenau!
