Moosburg without a pediatrician: future of practice uncertain – parents worried!
In Moosburg, a worrying health problem: The pediatrician Olaf Vorbeck closed his practice last Friday without having found a successor. Vorbeck has looked after the young patients of the town of 20,000 for 19 years, but now Moosburg is left without a pediatrician. Despite diligent efforts, including around 60 creative videos on Instagram to find a successor, no one was found who wanted to take over the practice. There is a risk of a similar development in the region, as other cities are also affected by supply bottlenecks Mercury reported.
The situation is getting worse: Parents in Moosburg now have to travel long distances to the nearest pediatricians in Erding, Freising or Landshut, with many practices already working at their capacity limits. Dominik Ewald, pediatrician in Regensburg and chairman of the regional association of pediatricians and adolescent doctors, draws attention to an alarming trend: Over 26 percent of pediatricians in Bavaria are already over 60 years old, which could further aggravate the situation in the coming years. Ewald warns that the bureaucracy deters many potential successors and calls for more flexible structures for further training positions in pediatrics in order to ensure sustainable care.
