Peace prayers and impulses: Munich sets an example for peace!

From February 14 to 16, 2025, Munich will once again become the center of international security policy when the 61st Munich Security Conference opens its doors. In addition to delegates from all over the world, church organizations have also prepared comprehensive initiatives to support peace and dialogue. A peace light will burn in the Christophorus Chapel at Munich Airport, and prayer texts in German and English will be provided, as the press office of the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising announced. The prayer week “Munich Betet An” accompanies the meeting, which this year also deals with the religious dimension of conflicts. Delegates will include Cardinal Reinhard Marx and Bishop Bohdan Dzyurakh, during a symposium entitled “Security in Europe: Religious Dimensions of War and Moral Responsibility for Peace” in cooperation with the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich and the Catholic University of Lviv, as reported by Kathpress.

Diverse peace initiatives and offers

On February 14th, an ecumenical peace prayer entitled “Vol(l)k” will take place in the Holy Spirit Church, followed by prayer impulses in the Bürgersaalkirche. This is part of a larger initiative in which representatives of all major faiths will meet for a joint prayer for peace in Saint Boniface on February 16th. A virtual peace meditation will also be offered on February 19th, which you can take part in from the comfort of your own home. In the midst of these important events, the messages from the churches and the international peace movement are loud and clear: peace requires commitment and dialogue.
