Starving street children in Romania: Pfarrcaritas starts Operation Butterbrot”

“Aktion Butterbrot” is a vital initiative that has been helping socially disadvantaged children in Romania for years! In collaboration with Caritas Satu Mare and the Caritas Association Passau, around 1,000 street children in the Satu Mare region are provided with a warm meal every day. These children suffer from extreme poverty and failed social policies that leave their families without support. Parents often have no work and social assistance fails, which leads to hunger and hardship.

Caritas Satu Mare has launched programs to counteract these problems. In special rehabilitation centers, children with developmental disabilities up to the age of seven are cared for and prepared for kindergarten. Particular attention is paid to Roma children, whose parents have often never attended school, which makes cooperation difficult. In kindergarten, the children not only learn social rules of behavior, but also hygiene education to enable them to have a better future.

Together against hunger!

After kindergarten, the children can go to the Caritas after-school care center, where they make friends and overcome prejudices. “Aktion Butterbrot” ensures that every child is provided with a warm meal every day, which represents a significant improvement in their lives. The dedicated Caritas employees not only offer a meal, but also comprehensive care that helps the children to develop new perspectives.
