Deggendorfer SC fails despite a courageous performance in Bad Tölz!

Deggendorfer SC's winning streak in the Oberliga Süd came to an abrupt end on Sunday evening. After seven successful games, the team from Deggendorf had to admit defeat to the ice-cold Tölzer Löwen 3:5. Loud PNP Deggendorf goalkeeper Timo Pielmeier had a frustrating evening in the Hacker-Pschorr-Arena. Despite a catch rate of only 79.2 percent and a weak defensive performance from those in front, the DSC was unable to build on its previous form. The clear deficit of 4:1 in the second third turned out to be too big an obstacle. Despite the return of Thomas Greilinger and a courageous performance, the Lions' efficiency and some exhausting absences in the Deggendorf squad, including Benedikt Schopper, who was missing for a short time due to illness, remained decisive factors in this duel.

Tension until the end

After the Lions' first goal in the 19th minute through Topi Piipponen, the DSC came out of the locker room strong and equalized through Petr Stloukal in the 25th minute. But the Tölzer Löwen countered within a very short time and turned the game to 4-1 with goals from Edfelder, Schüpping and Fischhaber. The Deggendorfers didn't let themselves get down and made it 4:3 thanks to a power play goal from Marco Baßler and Silvan Heiß Icehockey.net reported. But another goal from Jack Olmstead finally secured the victory for the Lions.

After this defeat, the DSC is optimistic about the upcoming home game against Heilbronn on Boxing Day. Coach Jiri Ehrenberger would be happy if his team could compete fully again in order to continue their path to the championship. “Bad Tölz took advantage of our bad phases in an ice-cold manner,” said Ehrenberger, pointing to the challenges the team had to overcome in the season so far.
