Serious accident on B 22 near Rötz: Four injured on Christmas Eve!
On Christmas Day, December 25, 2024, a serious traffic accident occurred on federal highway 22 near Rötz, in which four people were injured. The accident happened shortly after 7 p.m. at the junction with the new Rötz bypass. An Opel Astra and a Golf 3 were affected.
The 48-year-old driver of the Opel Astra intended to turn left onto State Road 2151 when she overlooked an oncoming 21-year-old Golf driver. As a result of the collision, the driver suffered serious injuries and had to be flown to a hospital in Nuremberg in a rescue helicopter. However, according to initial reports, there is no danger to life. Two passengers in the Opel, 24 and 22 years old, were slightly injured and taken to nearby hospitals for evaluation. The 21-year-old golf driver also sustained minor injuries and was also taken to hospital in Cham.
Consequences of the accident and deployment of the rescue services
Both vehicles were economically totaled as a result of the accident and the total damage is estimated at over 20,000 euros. Due to the clearance work, the B 22 had to be completely closed for around 1.25 hours; it was reopened around 8:30 p.m. At 7:17 p.m., the volunteer fire departments from Rötz, Grassersdorf, Hillstett and Pillmersried as well as the Cham road maintenance department were alerted. Operations manager Tobias Muhr and the rescue team were able to confirm that no people were trapped in the vehicles. The fire brigades ensured a road closure, lighting of the scene and fire protection on site.
The Waldmünchen police station has begun an investigation into the cause of the accident, which also includes possible negligent bodily harm and traffic violations.
