The service took place in the prison's multi-purpose hall, which is usually used for leisure activities. This festive gathering offered prisoners the opportunity to reflect on the meaning of Christmas in a contemplative atmosphere while they were incarcerated in the prison, which has a total of 115 inmates, mainly for minor and medium-sized offenses. Some of the prisoners were hoping to be able to spend the holidays with their families by being released early on December 21st, he reports Main Echo.
During the celebration, Bishop Jung urged the prisoners to bring their concerns to the baby Jesus and spoke about the themes of peace and forgiveness that are at the heart of the Christmas season. The musical accompaniment was provided by members of the Franciscan Community of Bethany and other musicians, which further enriched the atmosphere. At the end of the service, everyone present sang “Silent Night” together, a moment of reflection and community. In addition, each prisoner received a Christmas card designed by Bishop Jung, while the prison served festive food over the holidays to reinforce the Christmas feeling, as did the prison Diocese of Würzburg reported.
