Super calf auctioned for 140,000 euros – more expensive than a Porsche!
A calf caused a sensation in Upper Bavaria: at a breeding cattle auction in the Weilheim-Schongau district, the extraordinary animal was sold for an impressive 140,000 euros - a price that even puts a Porsche in the shade. The polled calf, whose father has the illustrious name “Silk PS”, is considered extremely valuable because it can produce 100 percent polled offspring. According to information from oe24.at The Neustadt/Aisch insemination association acquired the animal after a thrilling bidding duel.
Excellent pedigree
The auctioned calf belongs to the respected E line, which has its origins in Stefan Mayer's farm in Schnelldorf. The mother, Edelnice, is described as heterozygous polled and has a Gene Rating Index (GZW) of 141. Her genealogical roots go back to Edelperle, which is known for her breeding qualities. The E line also has prominent offspring, including several sons that are actively used in insemination stations, such as Walbusch P*S, Steyr, and Schiller. The excellent breeding quality of the line speaks for itself - especially because Edelfee, a famous representative of this family, was awarded champion at the VFR animal show in Ansbach in 2013 agrarheute.com reported.
The high bid reflects the important role that rare genetics play in livestock breeding. Not only market demand, but also the breeding performance of the calf will have a lasting impact on the industry.
