Rothenburg in a state of emergency: warehouse on fire, 250 firefighters on duty!
On Sunday afternoon there was a large fire in a warehouse in Rothenburg ob der Tauber, the cause of which remains unclear. Shortly after 4:45 p.m., the alarm was triggered via the Integrated Control Center (ILS) when the fire department was called to an operation on Bodelwickelstrasse. The police discovered on site that the building was already completely engulfed in flames. Fortunately, according to initial reports, there were no injuries, but the property damage amounts to several hundred thousand euros.
The extinguishing work lasted until late in the evening. Around 250 firefighters were on duty, supported by the Technical Relief Agency. The emergency services managed to bring the fire under control around 8 p.m. But work to completely extinguish the fire continued for several hours.
Smoke development leads to evacuation measures
Due to the heavy smoke associated with the fire, police issued warnings to nearby residents to keep their windows and doors closed. In addition, a mobile home parking space nearby had to be cleared as a precaution. This shows how dangerous the situation was due to the smoke.
The authorities estimate the property damage to be in the high six-figure range. The Ansbach criminal police department has already started investigating the cause of the fire. Investigators are asking witnesses who may have observed something suspicious during the incident to call 0911 2112 – 3333. These information are of great importance for clarifying the case.
Police conduct regular operations in the area and appreciate the public's interest in remaining informed on this matter. The situation in Rothenburg ob der Tauber impressively shows how quickly a normal situation can turn into an emergency. More details are expected as the investigation continues.
