Change at the top: Frank Streifel new head of the Amberg traffic police
In Upper Palatinate there was a notable change in leadership at the Amberg traffic police inspection (VPI). After five years at the helm, Chief Criminal Officer Tobias Mattes has resigned from head of the department. Last Wednesday, Police Commissioner Frank Streifel was officially introduced as the new head of the VPI by Police Vice President Robert Fuchs. This ceremony took place in the celebratory setting of the Kastl monastery castle, where around 70 guests from politics, the judiciary and various authorities and organizations came together.
The importance of the Amberg traffic police station was particularly emphasized at the introductory ceremony. Police Vice President Fuchs explained that the VPI is not only responsible for traffic safety on the A6 and A93 motorways, but also plays a key role in the fight against cross-border crime. In cooperation with the Schwandorf motorway police station, the VPI carries out important tasks such as heavy goods and speed checks in the Amberg-Sulzbach and Schwandorf districts as well as the city of Amberg.
Tobias Mattes switches to the criminal police
Tobias Mattes is not retiring, but is now taking over the management of the criminal police station in Amberg. Fuchs praised Mattes for his dedicated work during his term of office and his open ear for employee concerns. Under his leadership, the department made progress in several areas. Before his time at the VPI, Mattes was active as a lecturer at the University for the Public Service in Sulzbach-Rosenberg, where he taught in the areas of criminal and traffic science as well as leadership.
The 42-year-old, who lives in the Nürnberger Land district and is the father of four sons, brings not only practical experience but also academic qualifications to his new position. Fuchs praised Mattes' human nature and his ability to further develop the department while creating a supportive work environment.
Frank Streifel brings broad experience
In contrast, for Frank Streifel it is the first position at the Upper Palatinate police headquarters. The native of Middle Franconia spent most of his 21 years in the police service in Middle Franconia. He has held various positions, from a simple patrol officer to the head of a police station. Fuchs emphasized that Streifel was able to gain valuable experience “on the road,” which will benefit him in his new role.
Streifel has also started further studies to advance to the fourth qualification level at the German Police University, which he is expected to complete in September 2024. This academic background complements his practical experience and makes him a promising candidate for the management of the Amberg traffic police station.
The ongoing development within the Amberg Traffic Police Inspectorate reflects the dynamic challenges faced by police authorities and shows the ongoing need for qualified leaders in police work.
