LuminaFest 2024: Art and light transform Amberg and Weiden!

Amberg/Weiden. An exciting new event is coming, and it promises to enchant people with its impressive light installations. On October 26th and 27th, 2024, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., the LuminaFest, a light art festival that is celebrated in both Amberg and Weiden, will take place in Upper Palatinate. The University of Applied Sciences (OTH) will become a canvas for international artists and talented students presenting digital works of art at both locations. Entry is free, making this festival accessible to everyone.

The festival's motto, “Where art lights up the city,” hints at the visual spectacle that awaits visitors. The facades of the OTH are transformed into radiant works of art through impressive video projections. International media artists from several countries, including Germany, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Brazil, Iran, Portugal and Sweden, as well as creative minds from the OTH Visual Computing Laboratory, have worked on these projects for months.

A festival of visual excellence

The presentations will delight viewers with amazing visual effects. The facades seem to change, giving the architecture a completely new light. Video installations bring the buildings to life by transforming them into new shapes and perspectives. Visitors can look forward to a feast for the senses that pushes the boundaries of traditional art and celebrates innovative approaches.

The Laboratory for Visual Computing, which is headed by Prof. Alexander Peterhänsel, is responsible for organizing the festival. Since 2023, he has been committed to integrating current art and media forms into everyday university life. “The festival offers a valuable opportunity for cultural enrichment for the university locations and the surrounding cities,” emphasizes Prof. Peterhänsel. “Thanks to the commitment of our students and the support of sponsors, we can make such a light art event possible.” This not only brings a unique experience to the students, but also an unforgettable experience to the visitors.

Pleasure for all senses

But it's not just visual art that will be celebrated in these two evenings. Culinary specialties are also offered. Visitors can look forward to delicious snacks from “Snacks Colombia” in Amberg and Weiden, which serves famous Colombian treats such as empanadas and chuzos. In addition, there will be sweet desserts from Crêpes Schubert in Amberg, which round off the gastronomic offering.

To ensure that guests are well prepared for the festival, there is important information about arrival and facilities. In Amberg, sanitary facilities are available in the east tower of the university. It is also possible to park for free in the parking lot on the west side of the EMI building. However, visitors should note that the parking lot directly in front of the EMI building is closed.

In Weiden you can use the sanitary facilities in the cafeteria, and there are also free parking spaces located directly in front of the OTH AW. This means that guests can concentrate entirely on the fascination of light art.

LuminaFest is sure to be a highlight in the region and a wonderful opportunity for everyone to surround themselves with art, technology and culinary delights. For further information and details about visiting the festival, see the current reporting on www.oberpfalzecho.de.
