The discussion about the disposal of a dead wild sow near Sigmaringen: hunting tenant or road maintenance company? Clarity from Jägermeister Klaiber.
Dead wild boar on the district road: Who is responsible for the disposal?
A deadly roadside drama! A wild sow found lifeless has been lying on the district road between Sigmaringen and Unterschmeien since the end of September. The question arises: Who is responsible for disposing of this animal carcass? While the Sigmaringen district office insists that the respective hunting tenant bears responsibility, county hunter Hans-Jürgen Klaiber sees the situation completely differently.
Klaiber emphasizes that the rescue of injured wild animals after accidents is a “voluntary service” that hunters offer to the general public. Every year, hunters in the Sigmaringen district come to help with over 1,000 wildlife accidents at night and during the day. If necessary, the hunting tenant can also issue an accident certificate for the insurance, but: “There is no legal obligation,” adds Klaiber.
Guilty in the fast lane
But here’s where things get interesting! According to Klaiber, the ultimate responsibility for disposing of dead animals on the roadway lies with the road maintenance department. If the game is left lying there, you are the last to intervene. “We will continue to provide this service voluntarily. But we cannot provide 100% coverage,” he concludes conciliatoryly. It remains unclear when the most obvious solution to disposing of these animal remains will be implemented - the clock is ticking while the carcass remains motionless on the side of the road!
