Kuhn's house shines in new splendor after a long renovation!

The Kuhn’sche Haus on the main street of Menges shines in new splendor after extensive renovation work! The crane has disappeared, the scaffolding has been dismantled - passers-by can now admire the newly renovated facade. With new dormers in the attic and a harmonious choice of colors in red and green for the half-timbering and windows, the builder, the Löffler company from Hohentengen, really went all out in close cooperation with the monument authority.

But the construction site, which was set up a year and a half ago, had its pitfalls! “There were a lot of surprises,” admits Peter Löffler with a smile. These unforeseen challenges not only led to delays, but also required patience and numerous consultations. Access to the building is now barrier-free after the floor on the ground floor was lowered by 60 centimeters - a precision work that is impressive!

Preservation of the historical substance

The restoration is a balancing act between modernity and tradition. The monument office has set strict requirements: dilapidated wooden beams may only be replaced piecemeal, and the old staircase must be preserved. All windows were extensively restored, and to ensure thermal protection, a modern window was installed in front of each historical window. But the biggest challenge still lies ahead: the restoration of the “Blue Room” with the impressive ceiling painting by the Menger painter Leo Bauer. Here the blue and gold wallpaper is particularly elaborately processed.

The main road remains closed to facilitate the transport of materials. The construction costs are already higher than planned, and without funding the Löffler company would not have been able to undertake the renovation. The six barrier-free apartments are scheduled to be rented out in the spring - a ray of hope for the city!
