Karle Day: A celebration for all Karls in the Wirtshaus Paradies!

A very special day is coming! On November 6th, “Karle Day” is celebrated, an event that Karl Gebhart created to bring all men named Karl together. The 87-year-old from Steinbronnen has been inviting people to this celebration for ten years, which falls on the name day of Saint Charles Borromeo. A festival that not only has tradition, but also ensures lots of fun and conviviality!

Karle Day takes place in the Wirtshaus Paradies in Bad Saulgau, where Karl Gebhart traditionally reserves a table at 5 p.m. “I used to go there often and I always liked it,” he says. In the early years, the Karls celebrated in larger groups, but the number of participants has decreased over the years. “If there are only three of us, that’s nice too,” says Gebhart optimistically. The invitation is now also published in the “Schwäbische Zeitung”, and with success: “I once offered free beer, and even Karls from Herbertingen came!”

The meaning of Karle Day

November 4th is not just a date, but a day of honor for all Karls! Karl Gebhart was inspired by the idea while thinking about St. Joseph's Day. “Why not create a Karle Day?” he asked himself. His wife Emma adds: “The name day closest to the birthday is the actual one.” While name days play a major role in many countries, things are often different in Germany. But for Karl Gebhart, Karle Day remains a highlight that he celebrates with joy, even if the number of participants fluctuates. “Every year I’m excited to see who comes and what we can learn,” he says with a smile.
