Flu wave in the Rottweil district: Vaccination now more important than ever!
Rottweil, Deutschland - The flu strikes with full force! In the district of Rottweil, the flu cases climb incusingly, and the AOK warns: only a few people are vaccinated! High fever, chills and shortness of breath - the influenza is not fun and attacks the body's defenses. Last year, around 900 AOK insured persons had to be treated for influenza disease. The alarming numbers show an increase of 35 percent a year between 2019 and 2023. The jump from 2021 to 2022!
was particularly dramaticThe vaccination rate, on the other hand, is a sad low point: During the Corona pandemic, 15 percent of the insured were vaccinated in 2020, but last year the number fell to only 10 percent-the lowest value in a decade! The AOK makes it clear that older people and chronically ill, in particular, urgently need vaccination. "Infection diseases such as flu can result in dangerous consequences," warns Dr. Sabine Hewighorst-Knapstein from the AOK Baden-Württemberg. Pneumonia, heart attacks and even strokes are just a few of the possible complications.
vaccination essential for risk groups
The constant vaccination commission (STIKO) recommends the flu shot, especially for pregnant women, as they have a higher risk of severe courses. The vaccines are well tolerated, with only minimal side effects such as redness or slight cold symptoms. "The flu shot should be refreshed every year because the viruses change constantly," explains Dr. Hawwighorst-Knapstein.
In order to prevent flu infection, the AOK advises to wash the hand and regular ventilation of closed rooms. "Coughing and sneezing should always be turned into the crook of the arm," said the doctor. Drinking, sufficient sleep and a healthy diet are also crucial to strengthen the body's defenses. Winter is just around the corner - protect yourself and your loved ones from the flu!
