University of Mannheim shines in the DFG funding atlas!
The University of Mannheim has achieved an impressive second place in the field of economics in the current funding atlas of the German Research Foundation (DFG)! Between 2020 and 2022, the university's researchers raised an incredible 33.5 million euros in third-party DFG funding. This makes it one of the front runners in Germany and once again shows its outstanding research achievements.
Particularly noteworthy: In economics, the university received the second largest funding amount behind the University of Bonn with 10.4 million euros. In the social and behavioral sciences, Mannheim also raised 26 million euros, the fourth-highest amount in Germany. The university is also one of the top 3 in Germany in the area of National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI) with 1.1 million euros.
Research successes and specialization
“This year’s results once again illustrate the University of Mannheim’s impressive research achievements in the economics and social sciences,” emphasizes Prof. Dr. Jutta Mata, Vice Rector for Research. The excellent ranking is the result of the university's specialization in these departments, which repeatedly initiate groundbreaking research projects. The funded programs include the special research areas “Accounting for Transparency” and “Economic Perspectives on Social Challenges”, which have existed since 2019 and 2020. The graduate school “Statistical Modeling in Psychology” and the research group FOR 5157 are also supported by the DFG.
The DFG Funding Atlas, which appears every three years, is the most comprehensive collection of data on publicly funded research in Germany. The current issue covers the period from 2020 to 2022 and shows the impressive successes of the University of Mannheim, which has established itself as one of the leading universities in the research landscape.
