Ludwigsburg's household: 15 million euros minus despite austerity measures!
Ludwigsburg, Deutschland - The financial crisis of the city of Ludwigsburg has a new low! Despite strict austerity measures and the planned increase in trade tax, the baroque city must accept an alarming minus of over 15 million euros in the financial year 2025. Treasurer Harald Kistler presents the numbers with a facial expression that is reminiscent of the despair of Sisyphos - the city is repeatedly confronted with unsolvable financial challenges.
The city's income should increase by more than 11.6 million euros, including higher income from income tax and property tax. But the expenses gallop! Personnel costs will shoot up eight percent within one year, which causes almost ten million euros in additional costs. Mayor Matthias Knecht warns: "The financial challenges are becoming increasingly rank." Relief from the federal or state are not in sight, and the city is faced with the question of where it can save without endangering the future.
alarming debt development
The situation becomes even more dramatic if you look at the borrowing for major projects. The debt could grow to a terrifying 192 million euros by the end of 2028 - an increase of only 20 million euros a year ago! The regional council has already warned that such a household cannot be approved in the long run. The city has to hurry to get the financial difficulties under control, while investing of 236 million euros is due at the same time.
The frustrating knowledge is that the measures taken, although the crisis can alleviate but cannot solve. Increases of trade tax, rising parking costs and savings in the social area fizzle out under the pressure of the exploding expenses. Ludwigsburg stands on the abyss - and it remains to be seen how the city administration wants to avert the impending financial disaster!
