Peace light in Aalen: Ray of hope connects people in difficult times

On December 15, 2024, the “Peace Light from Bethlehem” campaign was celebrated in Aalen. This year, however, there was a special change: Due to the tense situation in the Middle East, the Peace Light could not be lit in Bethlehem. Instead, it was taken from a candle in the Austrian pilgrimage church of Christkindl in the Steyr district, which has been burning continuously since last year's campaign. This was done by schwaebische.de reported.

The ceremonial handover of the light took place on platform 1 of Aalen train station, where the train from Stuttgart arrived at 5:20 p.m. The Boy Scouts handed over the light to Catholic and Protestant youth representatives, accompanied by a small ecumenical prayer with around 100 participants. The light was then distributed to those present, supported by the station mission. The Peace Light campaign, which was originally launched by Austrian Broadcasting Corporation in 1986, symbolizes hope and peace. It connects people and reminds us of the important message of Christmas peace, as well as on friedenslicht.de is executed.

Diversity and hope

This year, under the motto “Live diversity, shape the future,” the peace light will once again be distributed throughout Germany by a delegation of German scouts. On the third Advent, light is brought to numerous cities with the aim of reaching people's hearts as a symbol of hope and peace. The distribution includes not only individuals, but also institutions and even political ministries, underscoring the importance of this message. The Boy Scouts, which consist of five recognized associations, show how important it is to stand together in a diverse and tolerant society and to actively live peace. This initiative from Austria, which is now widespread in Germany, encourages all people to spread the light of peace as a sign of solidarity.
