With the MX-30, Mazda presents an innovative electric vehicle that, despite its attractive features and design, presents some challenges. While other manufacturers rely on larger batteries and more impressive ranges, Mazda is pursuing an unconventional strategy with a 35.5 kWh battery and a maximum range of 200 kilometers. A special feature of the MX-30 is its unusual door concept with rear doors that open in opposite directions, which has both advantages and disadvantages. In the interior, high-quality workmanship meets environmentally friendly materials such as cork. While the space in the rear is sufficient for smaller people, it could be tight for taller passengers. The range of the MX-30 is seen as critical: especially at low temperatures, the range drops significantly and can even fall below 100 kilometers, which is loud ADAC scares off many potential users.
Technical details and features
The MX-30 offers a variety of assistance systems and safety features that make it a safe companion in everyday life. However, battery charging times are inadequate under current market standards, especially when you consider the limited output of a maximum of 36 kW at fast charging stations. A positive aspect is the high level of active safety of the vehicle, which already offers extensive safety features in the basic equipment. Despite all the challenges, the ADAC emphasizes that the driving experience with the MX-30 itself is positive and the drive comfort is consistently good. However, the innovative philosophy of “rightsizing” that Mazda pursues remains controversial and is not perceived as beneficial by all users.
