Dramatic traffic accident in Recklinghausen: One dead, six injured!

On the night of Wednesday, June 11, 2025, there was a serious traffic accident in Recklinghausen-Suderwich in which two cars collided and hit a house wall. According to fireworld.at, one person not only sustained injuries, but also succumbed to their trauma and later died in hospital. In addition, six other passengers were seriously injured.

The Recklinghausen fire department received the alarm at 2:10 a.m. and immediately went to the scene of the accident. When they arrived, the occupants of both vehicles were already outside the cars. A fire caused by the collision in one of the vehicles was immediately extinguished by the police. Five of the seriously injured were found directly on the street, while two other injured people were discovered nearby.

Emergency medical care and emergency services

Medical care for all those affected was initiated immediately and the patients were transported to surrounding hospitals after emergency medical treatment. The alert level “mass casualty incident – up to ten people (MANV 10)” was triggered for the incident. Among the injured was one person whose life was in acute danger and who also had to be taken to hospital.

The emergency services that intervened included the full-time security guard and numerous volunteer units, including a drone unit, the Technical Relief Organization (THW) and the German Red Cross. A psychosocial emergency care team was also requested to look after the victims and their relatives. The THW forces were also on site to assess the damage to the building.

Material damage and building management

The building surroundings were severely affected. The affected residential building had to be evacuated and the residents were accommodated in a public bus. The return to the apartments remains unclear for the time being as the building was supported by the THW forces. However, more information on the exact damage and the building's viability is expected to be provided in the coming days.

The fact that accidents like this continue to occur shows the need for road safety programs. The Bundestag decided in 1973 to regularly prepare accident prevention reports. These reports concern all aspects of traffic safety and support the federal government in the implementation of its traffic safety strategies, as stated in the Mobility Forum.

The road safety program from 2011 only recently expired and the Federal Cabinet has decided on a new program for the years 2021 to 2030. The traffic safety report will be published regularly in the future and is intended to provide information about progress in accident prevention, as was the case in Recklinghausen.
