Tyrol-South Tyrol Environmental Award: Tyrol’s winning projects in focus!
The “Environment & Climate Prize Tyrol-South Tyrol” award ceremony, which honors outstanding commitment to climate protection, recently took place in Bolzano. With 120 entries, including 45 from Tyrol and 75 from South Tyrol, a new record number of participants was achieved. The Innsbruck project “Weltacker” from the “feld:schafft” cooperative secured first place. The “Weltacker”, a 2000 square meter area, serves to illustrate global land consumption for growing food and offers workshops for schools. The harvest is also used in the cooperative's organic catering, creating an innovative connection between education and sustainable agriculture. Another excellent project is the nature recreation park of hollu Systemhygiene GmbH, which took third place, as Tirol.ORF reports.
Climate protection strategies in Innsbruck
Innsbruck is pursuing comprehensive strategies to combat climate change and adapt to its consequences, as described on the city's website. A central goal is to achieve energy autonomy by 2050, which is already supported by the updated Innsbruck Energy Plan. The city's Environment and Sustainability Prize motivates individuals and institutions to submit innovative projects in the area of environmental and climate protection. The prize is endowed with a total of 10,000 euros to promote creative approaches to improving the climate situation.
In addition, projects such as INN’F4UM are developing measures that are intended to make Innsbruck climate-neutral by 2030. These include initiatives to use sealed areas for energy production and the redesign of urban living spaces. The focus is also on promoting bicycle traffic and improving public transport in order to reduce automobile traffic and increase the quality of life in the city. All of these measures and awards show that Innsbruck and the Tyrol-South Tyrol region are making an active contribution to climate protection and are developing innovative ideas for a sustainable future.
