Seevetal: New funding priorities for emotional development launched!

Seevetal in the Harburg district has taken a significant step in the educational landscape: The Regional State Office for Schools and Education in Lüneburg has approved the new funding focus on emotional and social development at the Wolfgang Borchert School in Winsen. This decision takes effect on August 1, 2025 and brings a much-needed expansion of educational offerings for children with special needs.

“This approval is significant progress for our district,” said District Administrator Rainer Rempe, pleased with the decision. It is already clear that this new offer will contribute to supporting children with high needs in emotional and social areas. Preparations for upcoming parent consultations and registrations in primary schools can now begin in order to give the affected families more clarity.

Growing need for special education services

Ursula Schnelle, the head of the school/sports department, underlined the importance of this school branch: "We know about the high need for special educational offers for children. Many parents and primary schools expect this additional offer because they see it as a real opportunity for their children to be better supported in smaller learning groups." This innovative measure was decided in response to the growing challenges in supporting children at school.

The emotional-social support branch for students from grade 5 onwards was introduced at the Wolfgang Borchert School last school year. The expansion to the primary school sector will now also be introduced gradually. A combined class 1/2 is planned for the 2025/2026 school year, which will enable children to take part in school and social activities at an early stage.

What is particularly noteworthy is that the Wolfgang Borchert School is the only educational institution in the Harburg district that offers this specific focus. This means that students from all communities who have a high level of special educational support need have the opportunity to receive individual support here. The goal is clear: every child should be optimally supported in order to later make the transition to regular schools and to develop their talents and gifts.

The need for such specialized educational offerings is reflected not only in the increasing number of registrations, but also in the general increase in the need for school supervision. More and more children need special support, which has increased significantly in recent years, underlining the urgency of these developments. See the current information on seevetal-aktuell.de.
