Lower Austria is investing millions in artificial intelligence!
In Lower Austria, research in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) is massively supported with an impressive budget of over six million euros. At the center of this initiative is a new AI laboratory at the St. Pölten University of Applied Sciences, which will provide state-of-the-art high-performance computers. At a press conference, LH deputy Stephan Pernkopf emphasized the enormous importance of AI as a driver of business and innovation and emphasized: “Artificial intelligence should be a help and not a hurdle.” The financial support totaling 6.35 million euros will also support 21 courses related to AI at universities of applied sciences in Krems, St. Pölten and Wiener Neustadt, which have 1,544 study places. This reports that Austrian Press Service.
In addition, an AI real laboratory will be set up, which will be financed with around 600,000 euros. Practical applications of AI should be researched and tested here. Pernkopf also announced the establishment of two endowed professorships in the field of AI to further advance education and research. Another important point at the conference was the need to invest more in AI research in Europe in order to counteract the dominance from the USA and China.
EU billions for artificial intelligence
The EU also plans to introduce a uniform set of rules for AI, which is due to come into force in 2026. These regulations are intended to ensure that Europe is not just lagging behind in AI development, but is actively and ethically shaping it. Meanwhile, US Vice President J.D. warned Vance is against excessively strict regulations that could endanger the innovative power of AI. Developments in both regions reflect increasing global interest and pressure to use artificial intelligence responsibly and effectively.
