Lienzer Sparkasse: Stability, growth and new projects in 2025!

In 2024, Lienz Sparkasse has proven itself to be a stable partner in difficult times. During the club meeting on June 5, 2025, which took place in the hall of the Lienz Sparkasse, the board members Martin Bergerweiß and Bernhard Gugganig as well as President Hermann Troger welcomed numerous guests of honor and club members. In his address, Bergerweiß highlighted the challenges of the past year, which were characterized by geopolitical tensions, economic uncertainties and climate change. Despite these adversities, Lienz Sparkasse remains a reliable contact for people and companies in the region.

Lienzer Sparkasse's key financial figures underline its robust development: total assets rose by 6.2% to 517.9 million euros. Customer funds also increased by 5.9% to 680.9 million euros, while the financing volume grew by 2.7% to 340.1 million euros. Particularly noteworthy is the increase in equity of 22.7% to 67.6 million euros, which is well above the legal minimum. These figures reflect the Sparkasse's commitment, which would also like to focus on topics such as “affordable housing” and “financial health” in 2025.

Funding projects and social commitment

The philanthropic commitment of Lienz Sparkasse was also discussed at the club meeting. In 2024, a total of 92,000 euros were distributed for various Sparkassenstiftung funding projects. Sparkasse foundations have existed in Germany since the 18th century and have extensive support commitments, which reached around 534 million euros in 2024, including more than 78 million euros in foundation distributions, as Sparkasse.de reports.

The Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe has established itself as the most active corporate group in Germany and supports local projects in art, culture, sport and education. 752 foundations in the Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe manage a total capital of around 3.2 billion euros, and each foundation operates independently in its region. The DAVID Prize is awarded annually for outstanding small projects, with eight projects being nominated this year, as noted by Sparkassenstiftung GF-Wolfsburg.

Review and outlook

The Lienz Sparkasse, founded in 1878 to promote savings and loans, changed its structure in 2003 and was converted into a private foundation in order to ensure the long-term preservation and fulfillment of its founding purpose. During the event, Andreas Altmann, Rector of MCI Innsbruck, gave a lecture about Lienz as a university location, which fueled further interest in regional development.

In summary, it can be said that despite the challenges of the past year, Lienz Sparkasse was able to present solid figures in 2024 and continues to be committed to society. With planned measures for 2025, it shows its willingness to continue to make a contribution to financial health and quality of life in the region in the future.
