Festive singing in the concert hall: 800 children celebrate the music!
On June 1, 2025, the “Festive Singing” concerts took place in the Vienna Konzerthaus. The series of events, which also caused a stir on May 31st, thrilled 800 children and young people who played music together. The Vienna Children's Voices and the Singing School's children's and youth choirs offered an impressive performance, accompanied by the Vienna Youth Symphony Orchestra and dancers from the MUK Music and Art Private University.
Vice Mayor Bettina Emmerling sent a message of greeting during the concerts. In her speech, she highlighted the central role of music in everyday life and in school education and emphasized its importance for the personal development of children. Christiane Fischer, director of the Vienna Singing School, praised the dynamism and skills of the performing ensembles and encouraged continued musical work.
Musical training in Vienna
The Singschule Vienna offers musical training at a total of 55 elementary schools and seven music school locations. Almost 3,500 children of elementary school age and older benefit from this offer. With 15 music schools and a total of 29 locations in the city, over 12,000 children and young people in Vienna receive musical support. A central concern of these institutions is making music together, which also formed the basis of “festive singing”.
For 2026, the next “Festive Singing” is already planned for June 6th and 7th, 2026, with the focus on “The Magic Flute” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Every year new talents are officially introduced to the public at these concerts.
Choir variety and musical programs
In Vienna there are a large number of children's and youth choirs that play an important role in the musical life of the city. Among them are the a cappella choir “The Star Catchers” at the Clara Fey Campus Maria Regina as well as numerous choirs at various schools, such as the children's choirs at the Vienna Music School. These choirs actively contribute to the musical education and support of children and young people in the city.
In addition, many elementary schools in Vienna offer comprehensive support measures in the area of arts education. There are collaborations with the music schools, which include programs such as ELEMU, singing classes and wind instruments classes. Every year, the Vienna Education Directorate awards the “School Makes Music” music quality seal to schools that pay particular attention to musical education.
These initiatives, combined with the commitment of schools and music schools, illustrate the great importance of music in education and its role in the development of young talent in Vienna.
The updated program content and the full playlist of the concerts can be viewed on the music schools' YouTube channel, further increasing accessibility and the opportunity to promote musical talent.
