Zoo Dresden celebrates inheritances of 524,000 euros for projects!
Two German zoos can look forward to generous inheritances and donations that will significantly improve their offerings for the animals. That's how he reports MDR that Dresden Zoo received 14 bequests this year alone, which brought in a total of 524,000 euros. Zoo director Karl-Heinz Ukena emphasized the importance of these funds for the implementation of new projects. The financial donations have already been used to implement measures such as the construction of a new orangutan house, and further funds are planned for the planned construction of a petting zoo.
But there is reason to be happy not only in Dresden! In the Cologne Zoo, like RTL reported, a remarkable legacy from Elizabeth Reichert was revealed: the 96-year-old from Cologne bequeathed a whopping $26 million to the zoo. Their inheritance, some of which has been put into a foundation, will enable the zoo to generate up to 1.5 million euros annually from the proceeds. Reichert always wanted to use her money to help the animals in the Cologne Zoo, and the planned investments are intended to benefit the animal husbandry needs of the zoo.
Financial support for new projects
The thirty million euros that the zoos have received through inheritances and donations will go directly to improving animal husbandry and creating new enclosures. While the Dresden Zoo has intensified its advertising campaigns to attract donors, the Cologne Zoo aims to use the inheritance specifically for animal-friendly projects. The first payment from the foundation is already planned for the construction of a new rhino enclosure, which further underlines the zoo's innovative strength and will improve the animals' quality of life.
These significant legacies demonstrate the importance of supporting animals in zoos and creating attractive habitats. With these generous donations, zoos can concentrate on sustainably promoting the well-being and development of their animal residents.
