Cycle path expansion in full swing
In a comprehensive interview with butterfly Sima explained that over 20 kilometers of new cycling connections would be created in 2023. This is an unprecedented pace. Despite over 34 million euros in investments, she sees the city's capacities at the limit. The city government has plans to increase the proportion of cycle paths to 10 percent, but is struggling with staff shortages and limited resources. Last year, more than 50 projects in the area of cycling were implemented, which illustrates the urgency of further measures.
The city's goal remains to spend 100 million euros on building new cycling infrastructure by the end of this legislative period. Sima announced that new cycle paths will also be created in Floridsdorf and Donaustadt in order to close the gaps in the network. Nevertheless, the pressure on the city's resources will increase as implementing the projects poses a challenge.
