Traffic chaos in Vienna: bus route to the Stadionbad will be canceled in summer!

In the middle of summer, accessibility to the Stadionbad in Vienna is affected by the discontinuation of bus route 77A. This decision, which can be traced back to the construction site to extend line 18, causes great incomprehension. Local councilor Elisabeth Olischar and her colleague Sabine Keri from the Vienna People's Party expressed their dissatisfaction with the traffic situation and its impact on citizens in a recent statement.

The Stadionbad, which is one of the largest outdoor swimming pools in Vienna, is now significantly more difficult to access due to the lack of connection. The situation is a problem that has been heavily criticized by the public, particularly for older people and families with small children. The two local councilors are calling for immediate measures to ensure accessibility to the popular swimming pool.

Criticism of lack of planning

What is particularly important is the fact that allotment gardeners on the water meadow were not included in the planning. As a result of the changes, these people are now cut off from the public transport network for two seasons, which makes it much more difficult to use the stadium pool and other important locations.

A transport service between the subway station and both the KGV Wasserwiese and the Stadionbad is considered urgently necessary. The walk from the subway to the water meadow is almost two kilometers, which is a big challenge for people with heavy purchases, older people and wheelchair users.

The majority of Viennese are therefore demanding that the Wiener Linien and Transport City Councilor Sima find a solution as quickly as possible in order not to put a strain on the summer bathing season. A change in thinking and action is required to minimize the impact of transport policy on citizens.

New roof for the stadium pool

The situation is rounded off by the planned construction of a new roof over the stadium pool, as reported on April 28, 2022 (meinbezirk.at). This could give the outdoor pool a modernized look and further increase its attractiveness. Nevertheless, the question of accessibility to the pool remains in the foreground, especially in the current situation.
