Major fire in Leopoldsdorf: construction company fights against flaming inferno!

On September 19, 2025 at 10:45 a.m., the fire department was alerted to an operation in Leopoldsdorf near Vienna. In a residential building under construction, a person was seen on the roof while heavy smoke and fire expansion were observed. This high-alarm scenario led to the alarm level being raised from fire 2 to fire 3, which also resulted in the alerting of additional fire engines and an aerial rescue vehicle. The Leopoldsdorf, Maria Lanzendorf and Lanzendorf fire departments were on the scene immediately.

The fire situation turned out to be particularly delicate: an extensive fire had spread into insulation materials and onto the roof surface. At the time of the operation there were no longer any people present on the roof. The emergency services therefore started extinguishing the fire as quickly as possible. A rapid attack line was activated for the first firefighting attack, followed by two additional firefighting lines and a special supply line.

Operational measures and initial successes

The operations manager and his team immediately took a coordinated approach. A respiratory protection team was able to start extinguishing the fire outside, while another team explored the situation on the roof and the third team prepared for a possible interior attack. Thanks to these quick measures, the first extinguishing successes were achieved after just a few minutes.

During the course of the operation, additional respiratory protection teams and the turntable ladder from the Schwechat fire department were requested to provide reinforcements. These measures were necessary to fully control the fire risk. At 12:56 p.m. the fire was reported by operations manager Andreas Perner.

Injured people and emergency services

Unfortunately, the homeowner was registered with suspected smoke inhalation. He was immediately given first aid by the Red Cross emergency services and taken to hospital. Fortunately, there were no other injuries.

A total of around 90 members of the fire brigades from Leopoldsdorf, Maria Lanzendorf, Lanzendorf, Ebergassing, Hennersdorf and Schwechat as well as 24 vehicles were on duty. The Red Cross district operations manager and three ambulances were also available to provide support. Operations manager Andreas Perner expressed his thanks to everyone involved, including the fire department, rescue and police.

Documentation and follow-up

The documentation of such an operation is of central importance. As also highlighted by TÜV SÜD, the process of a fire brigade operation is systematically recorded in order to enable a detailed evaluation. This includes preparing an incident report that serves as a legal document in possible insurance investigations or criminal investigations. It is important that Lumiform provides a clear overview of the situation and the measures taken. A good report not only provides information about the what and where, but also the why and how of the operation.

Overall, this operation impressively shows how well-coordinated emergency services can respond to dangerous situations with quick action and the right equipment in order to prevent anything worse from happening.
